Design Technology
Our Vision for Design Technology DT
At Our Lady’s pupils are encouraged to explore all aspects of Design and
Technology and to build and develop their knowledge and practical skills
thought-out key stages. Pupils will be encouraged to use their imagination and
creativity to help to solve problems and create products for purpose.
Intent
We intend to develop creativity and imagination, enabling pupils to design and
make products that solve real and relevant problems in a variety of real world
contexts. Teachers will model skills, the correct use of equipment and teach all
safety aspects involved in a task. DT lessons will be full of hands on active
learning, with pupils being able to work on new skills independently.
Across both key stages, we ensure that pupils have the chance to explore
cooking and nutrition and develop their knowledge of healthy eating and food
preparation.
Pupils will design, make and evaluate their designs. They will explore past and
present designs and will be encourage to evaluate and test both their own and
existing designs.
Impact
As children have progressed through their DT learning at Our Lady’s they will
have developed their creativity, problems solving skills and confidence. Pupils
will understand the design process and will be able to design, make and evaluate
products that solve real and relevant problems. They will have a knowledge of a
wide range of transferrable skills and a love of cooking and creating.
